Alaska 2010 Daily News and Photo:
June 5th Glacier Bay, Alaska (Cruising),
Saturday was a nature day with no feet planted on firm ground. As a matter of fact our feet won't touch ground again until Monday. Something about trying to type while rocking and rolling through four or six foot swells is kind of a pain in the butt.
Today was Glacier Bay National Park day. We had light rain and nasty overcast most of the day. That tends to make for less than ideal photography. The feature image is Margerie Glacier. It is one of many in the park and in this area. While there wasn't much in the way of calving going on I did manage to catch one of them.
It was a good wildlife viewing day but it was all far enough off even with the 400mm lens that print size would make a nice postage stamp. On the other hand we did get to see five brown bears, a number of eagles and quite a few whales. No breaches but a lot of whale tails.
The extra image for today is a crop and not bad for web use but is going to be pretty limited for print size. Yes it is a family of three.
Sunday will be a lot of at sea time followed by a few hours in College Fjord. |
