June 7th Whittier Alaska,
Some days really don't end up as planned. Actually some vacations don't end up as planned.
Today in Whittier we were supposed to take a small boat tour out to 26 different glaciers and get in some wildlife viewing. The weather was great when we got on the boat. The weather stayed fine but the boat didn't. About 30 minutes after leaving Whittier we came to a grinding halt so to speak. It seems some unknown "item" was sucked into the right side jet pump. After an announcement that we would be slowing down to "clear the pump". When he tried to restart the engine it was seized. We returned to Whittier and will get a refund. So much for the side trip I was really looking forward to.
On a positive note the day wasn't a total loss. All you have to do is wander into the parking lot where they store the boat trailers and look up on the hill. You can stand there and watch the pair of Bald Eagles up in their nest. If you have a long lens you can even get a photo of them.
