Alaska 2010 Daily News and Photo:
June 13th Ketchikan, Alaska,
We spent the day driving the road in Ketchikan. All 31 miles of the road. You have to like boats to like this place. There are no roads in or out of the area.
While I love the rugged mountains up in South West I really think that part of Alaska I like the best is South East and to me Ketchikan is a great example of that part of the State. There is a population of 8200 and it is a fishing port. It goes back many years and that means there are boats of all ages. Some of them are kept up very well and are working boats. In other cases like the one on the left something went wrong. Had it not been raining and blowing around 30 I would have asked around to find out the story about this old girl. The guy at Alaska Car Rental was good enough to tell me about her there at Ward Cove. The hull can only be seen at low tide.
On the other end of the road to the South I was looking for bears and ran across another boat. This one is a bit smaller but I'm sure it also has stories to tell.
Sunday is an at sea day as we make our way back down to Vancouver. We will be in there Monday morning.
