I was lucky enough yesterday to have a number of pairs of adult Evening Grosbeaks come through the place and clean out the sunflower seed feeders. I have the Black Headed Grosbeaks here most of the year but seem to only catch their cousins as they are passing through. The Evenings were here for a few hours yesterday but I haven’t seen one of them today. I guess it is all in the timing.
One of the things on these birds that rates on the unusual side is their green beaks. On the younger birds it is brown in color. As they turn to adults the beak changes to the green color. They can tear through a bunch of sunflower seeds in a short period of time.
Great shots! For some reason I thought you didn’t have them in the NW! Beautiful and interesting birds.
