Waves Crashing On The Rocks at Shore Acres State Park on the Oregon Coast

No trip to the Southern Oregon Coast is complete without a stop at Shore Acres State Park. Shore Acres is located South of Coos Bay and Charleston. More information on getting there is here. I know I talked about the park in one of the articles below. Here are a few things I didn’t talk about in the past post:

  • This is a fee area with set hours. The fee is $5 per day. Hours change with the seasons.
  • If the weather gets nasty there is an enclosed viewing area that will get you in out of the wind and rain.
  • There are restrooms on site.
  • There is no camping or fires allowed.
  • If you want a ride in a Coast Guard helicopter, get too close to the edge of the cliff when the waves are breaking high and hard.
  • Late afternoon and evening will get you the best light on the cliffs and rocks.
  • Low tide can be very interesting as far as the rock formations go.
  • If you plan on wandering  out on the rocks at low tide make sure the surf is quiet.
  • It never hurts to have a friend along as a spotter to keep an eye on the waves for you.
